Schedule A Fitness Orientation
At the Malden Y, we understand that your first time on the fitness floor might be a little confusing - maybe even a little intimidating. We have invested in some of the latest in state-of-the-art fitness equipment and we offer many options for you to achieve your fitness goals. We know that not everyone is a fitness guru with years of experience using this type of equipment. That's why we have professional fitness staff who DO have years of experience here to help you.
As part of your new member onboarding, we are pleased to offer you a complimentary fitness orientation. The orientation is offered in a group format* and lasts approximately 60 minutes.
In your orientation you can expect the following:
1. A comprehensive walk through of our cardio area, including basic functionality of the treadmills, the Lateral Octane X, eXpresso bikes, and upright bikes.
2. A guided tour of the "Cybex Circuit", which will go through each of our Cybex Selectorized Equipment pieces so that you feel comfortable setting them up and using them on your own.
3. If time allows, the fitness staff member may also show you one or two other pieces of equipment such as the "battling ropes, medicine balls, etc".
DID YOU MISS YOUR CHANCE TO HAVE A FITNESS ORIENTATION WHEN YOU FIRST JOINED US?
Don't worry! Fitness orientations aren't only for new members. If you think you would benefit from an orientation, please don't hesitate to register for an orientation with one of our professional fitness staff.
All you have to do is send an e-mail to our Director of Healthy Living. Please write "Fitness Orientation Request" in the subject line and in the body of the e-mail put your name, phone number, e-mail address, preferred method of contact, ideal time to receive a phone call (if phone is your preferred method), and the trainer you would like to work with (if you have a preference). We'll reach out to you shortly after that to schedule an appointment.

Please wear comfortable workout clothing. No boots, dress shoes, etc are allowed on the fitness floor.
*If you prefer a one-on-one orientation, you can request one in lieu of the group format.

JOIN THE Y!
The Y is a cause for strengthening community. That’s why we’re here working with you every day, making sure that you, your family and community have the resources and support you need to belong, grow and thrive. With a focus on developing the potential of kids, improving individual health and well-being, and giving back and supporting our neighbors, your membership will bring about meaningful change not just within yourself, but in your community, too. You don’t just join the Y—you belong here.
We believe in offering programs as diverse as the people we serve. Which means an unparalleled selection of classes and activities—everything from fitness classes to summer camp—is out there, just waiting for you and your family to explore. Visit our program tab to see all we have to offer for Adults, Families, Seniors and Youth!
The Y is a positive force in this community. Together, we take on the challenges that shape Malden, Medford, and Everett’s futures. From tackling the achievement gap to teaching healthy habits for a lifetime, or ensuring all of our neighbors have the fresh food they need - everything the Y does is in service of building a better us. Every day, our community faces new challenges that create a greater need for the work we do. YMCA donors, volunteers, members, and partners like you make the difference. Your gift can help our community and everyone in it shine.
Each year the lives of more than 23,000 people are changed for the better by Mystic Valley YMCA programs and services. It would not be possible for the Y to fulfill its mission without the generosity of our many corporate and individual donors and volunteers. Your support ensures that the YMCA will never have to turn someone away due to an inability to pay, and that we can continue our community outreach to vulnerable youth, families and seniors.
